The Normaltown Flyers



The Normaltown Flyers have been together since 1978.  Taking their name from a west Athens neighborhood called Normaltown, they describe their music as "pickup truck rock n' roll", a blend of rock, country and folk.

For years they were the house band for Allen’s bar in Athens.  They recorded their first album in 1981, but their big break came in 1990, when they were recruited to move to Nashville to work with legendary producer Harold Shedd (who has produced for Glen Campbell, Willie Nelson, Reba McIntire, Shania Twain, and Toby Keith, among others).  They released their second album, Country Boy's Dream, in 1991.  The album did not sell well, so the band returned to Athens and went back to doing what they do best – playing live shows.

Still together, still playing Athens, the Flyers are an enduring fixture on the Athens music scene.
